Attractions Debuting this Spring

Delirium

As you likely already know, Kings Dominion is unveiling a new thrill ride in the Candy Apple Grove section of the park. Delirium, which stands on the site of the now-demolished Shockwave stand-up coaster, is a Revolution thrill ride built by Mondial. On the new attraction, riders face outwards in a large ring, which rotates while swinging back and forth on a pendulum up to 115 feet in the air.

We expect Delirium to open to pass holders on Pass Holder Preview Day (March 20) and to the general public on opening day (March 25). You can stay up-to-date with Delirium’s construction by viewing the park’s online webcam here.

Events Happening this Spring

Pass Holder Preview Day (March 20)

Kings Dominion opens their gates early for their second-ever Pass Holder Preview Day! Like Pass Member Preview Day at Busch Gardens, this is a special day open exclusively to pass holders that lets them experience the park before it opens to the general public. A few special events will happen on Pass Holder Preview Day:

  • Presentation in the Kings Dominion Theater – A special presentation in the park’s main theater will outline everything new to the park in 2016, including Delirium, new special events, and season pass benefits
  • Giveaways – The first 900 guests at the presentation will receive a free season pass lanyard, and raffle tickets will be given for the chance to win prizes including an iPad Mini. Plus, if you redeem a souvenir bottle purchase at Country Kitchen, Dinner Bell, or Victoria’s Pizza, you’ll get a free Delirium drink Koozie
  • Free Up-Charge Rides – A limited number of free rides are being offered for two rides that usually charge extra admission: the Grand Prix Raceway go-karts and Xtreme Skyflyer sky coaster!
  • Delirium – Additionally, Delirium will be open on Preview Day! You’ll have the chance to ride Delirium before it officially opens to the general public.

Easter Eggstravaganza (March 25 – 27)

Kings Dominion’s annual children’s Easter event is back for 2016! The event features a petting zoo in Planet Snoopy near the Flying Ace swing ride, arts and crafts stations around the Planet Snoopy fountain, and photo opportunities with the park’s Easter Bunny on International Street. Children can also embark on a scavenger hunt for oversized, Peanuts-themed Easter eggs throughout the park.

Spring Bloom Festival (April 16 – May 15)

The Spring Bloom Festival is also returning for its third season! Originially, Spring Bloom began as a landscaping-focused event in 2014 that showcased colorful flower displays throughout International Street, but in 2015, it became what the park calls a “culinary trip around the world.” Now, Spring Bloom Festival features booths located throughout International Street that serve authentic dishes from various international cuisines. This year, the park will serve plates from four countries: Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and new for 2016, Ireland.

In addition to the flowers and the food, live music will be performed by local bands on International Street, free concerts will be offered in the Kingswood Amphitheatre, and children’s arts and crafts can be found in Planet Snoopy.

Spring Bloom is one of my personal favorite events at Kings Dominion, so I highly recommend experiencing it during its month-long run.

Run & Ride (May 22)

This year, Kings Dominion and its sister Cedar Fair parks are trying a new concept: a series of races called “Run & Ride.” There are three races to choose from: a 5K, a 10K, or a 1-mile “fun run.” All three races weave through the park, with the complexity of the course increasing with the length of the race. In other words, the 1-mile “fun run” is a straightforward run around the perimeter of the park, while the 10K takes tight turns throughout less-traveled paths.

All of the races take riders around and even under the park’s landmarks: coasters, dinosaurs, fountains, and all other odds and ends. Runners will be joined by Peanuts characters, and can enjoy the park’s rides when not racing. Those in the 5K and 10K will receive free park admission, while those in the 1-mile “fun run” will receive discounted tickets.
